Conconcreto, the third largest Columbian construction company regarding volume of contracts, has awarded Grupo Aluman its third largest contract in Columbia.
The building will be the tallest in Cartagena and will have 49 floors, it will be a hotel and construction is already under way. It is the tower of the Estelar Hotel Cartagena which is being built between Carretera Primera and Avenida San Martín, Calle 12, in Bocagrande. Its design will make it an icon of modern architecture in the city. Miguel Diez, president of Estelar Hotels confirmed that the hotel will have 300 rooms and 36 apartments. Construction began last February and according to the schedule for completion it will be complete in December 2015. Besides being the tallest building in the city, the structure will also become the tallest hotel establishment in the capital and one of the largest, in terms of rooms, which the hotel chain has. The architectural design is by the firm Gómez Piedrahita, from Medellín and the construction company is the firm Conconcreto. Diez revealed that the hotel will also have a convention centre with a capacity of 2.400 people.
At the moment the two largest hotels operated in the country by the Estelar chain are the Hotel Estelar Intercontinental in Cali which has 290 rooms and Estelar La Fontana in Bogotá, with 213 rooms and 100 apartments. More than 94 million pesos have been invested in the new hotel in Cartagena. The chain Hoteles Estelar S.A. was founded in 1968 and is a subsidiary of Corficolombiana. Nowadays it is the biggest hotel chain in the country. It currently has more than 3.420 rooms in 26 hotels in Columbia, Peru and Panama, among which can be found the Intercontinental Hotel in Cali, La Fontana in Bogotá and Milla de Oro in Medellín. The façade will be made up of about 5000 m2 of modular system curtain wall, 3000 m2 of stick system, 2000 m2 of high level carpentries and around 1000 m2 of composite panels. Aluman will install around 500 ml of glass railings
