La Poste du Louvre

Context
The Poste du Louvre is an ambitious transformation project that forms part of a series of major renovation projects in the heart of Paris. It was originally a block of stone closed on three sides and open to the public only through the post office. The architectural concept set out to reintroduce this complex into the life of the district, converting into a place for social life and services.
The new Poste du Louvre now offers a program of mixed use connected to activities in the district. It has a 5 star hotel with 82 rooms, a restaurant and a rooftop bar, accessible from the Rue Étienne-Marcel, which offers spectacular views of the rooftops of the capital.
The building also includes shops, social housing, offices and a wide range of services such as the preservation of the historical post office, a police station, a crèche and an urban logistics centre in the basement.

Scope
To integrate the interior façades, a wide range of methods and approaches were used to meet the needs of each space: a bullet-proof system from the police station, and intrusion and fire prevention systems. A roof of overlapping sheets was also built.

Challenge
This project was a major challenge for the engineering and operational teams due to the complexity and variety of systems installed and the need to adapt solutions as the original building was laid bare of the previous brick façades and original structures that were not in the first plans started to appear.
